Baby, oh no! Did you forget this other Bow Wow Wow classic?
A few weeks ago when we celebrated Retro Futura Week, I ran out of time to feature a video by Bow Wow Wow and their lead singer Annabella Lwin who alternated dates with Paul Young this summer. No need to cry foul as we correct that omission with Baby Oh No.
It was just in a recent podcast that the SIT80's podcast crew dropped more knowledge on its listeners in its Covers In The '80s series that enlightened us that Bow Wow Wow's most popular song - I Want Candy - was a cover song from 1965. We've covered Bow Wow Wow once before in the early days of Lost and Found with their equally good Do You Want To Hold Me? and today we go deeper into the Bow Wow Wow catalogue with Baby Oh No.
Baby Oh No was actually the follow-up single to I Want Candy in 1982 and it only made it as far as No. 103 on the U.S. singles chart. Baby Oh No is a Bow Wow Wow original and was even written without the help of Bow Wow Wow mastermind Malcolm McLaren. The video for Baby Oh No is about the lure of a mysterious motorcyclist and yet somehow it all feels a little dirty as Annabella Lwin was only 15 years old when this video was made.
When 80s In The Sand takes place this November, Lwin will be 51 years old and hopefully Steve Spears will get a chance to chat with her about the crazy Bow Wow Wow days when Lwin was just a teen.
