Irma prompts St. Pete to cancel Thursday's council meeting
St. Petersburg has canceled Thursday's City Council meeting as Hurricane Irma approaches Florida.
Council chairwoman Darden Rice announced her decision Wednesday. The city has rescheduled its two required budget hearings for Sept. 21 and Sept 28. Both hearings will be at 6:30 p.m., said Budget Director Tom Greene.
The city was also scheduled to initially consider a proposed ordinance on eliminating Super PAC money and campaign contributions from multinational corporations among other items.
Editor's Note: The date of the second budget hearing was changed to Sept. 28 by city officials Thursday.
