What to watch this weekend: 'Gerald's Game,' 'The Magic School Bus Rides Again,' Marvel's 'Inhumans'

Serinda Swan, Iwan Rheon and Anson Mount in Inhumans.

Serinda Swan, Iwan Rheon and Anson Mount in Inhumans.

ABC set its hopes high with this small screen adaptation of the popular comics. Inhumans follows the royal Inhuman family ruling over the moon city of Attilan. Black Bolt (Anson Mount) and Medusa (Serinda Swan) left, are a king and queen with superhuman powers. Black Bolt's voice can topple cities; Medusa's long red hair is like having extra strong hands. The internal strife between Black Bolt and his normal human brother Maximus (Iwan Rheon) leads to a military coup on Attilan and forces the royal family to flee to Hawaii . This adaptation was a bold move for ABC, but the first two episodes hold promise. And at least there's Lockjaw, the giant teleporting bulldog. 8 p.m. Friday, ABC.

The Gifted

For X-Men fans, there's Fox's The Gifted, which explores what our own world would be like if people were born with unique abilities, also known as the mutant gene. The series follows the Strucker family (Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker and, pictured at right, Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White), on the run after the discovery of their two children's mutant abilities. In this world, those with powers are brutally hunted by a hostile government that wants all mutants tested or caged. The family joins up with an underground mutant network for help. Watch this Marvel show if you're looking for more realistic stories without all the cheesy CGI. 9 p.m. Monday, Fox.

Buckle up: The Magic School Bus Rides Again

Meet Ms. Fiona Felicity Frizzle, younger sister to the original Ms. Frizzle, who took a generation of kids on amazing and educational adventures on her magic school bus. In the original series, the Frizz (Lily Tomlin) periodically took her elementary students on the best field trips ever aboard a bright yellow bus that had the ability to fly, time travel and shrink down to a microscopic size. The series was even nominated numerous times for an Emmy. In The Magic School Bus Rides Again, funny gal Kate McKinnon (who just won an Emmy for her role on Saturday Night Live) gets the bus keys, taking the students on more swings through the stars, journeys on rivers of lava and even teaching anatomy from inside the human body. It's the perfect revival for the millennial parent or for those who just want to feel like a kid again. Seat belts, everyone! Now available on Netflix.

Stephen King does it again: Gerald's Game

There's no paranormal activity at work in this Stephen King-inspired film, but Gerald's Game is just as nightmarish. Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus) directs this film about a couple (Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood, right) that vacations at a remote lake house to help rekindle their romance. Once there, Gerald (Greenwood) handcuffs Jessie (Gugino) to the bed and enjoys his wildest fantasies. But Jessie isn't having it, and the two argue before Gerald has a heart attack and falls dead to the floor. Jessie is now trapped with no one for miles to hear her screams for help. Well, except for the hungry dog, who goes to work on her now dead husband. There's nothing left for Jessie to do except pray for rescue and relive her past traumas through flashbacks and hallucinations. Now available on Netflix.
