UPDATE:Rays "optimistic" about hosting Red Sox this weekend, Trop checks out okay after Irma
UPDATE, 2:14: Rays president Brian Auld spoke a few minutes ago with St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman and said all parties are "optimistic" about playing at the Trop this weekend, but will until Tuesday to make the final decision.
DEVELOPING: Initial word from the Rays is that Tropicana Field made it through Hurricane Irma with its roof intact and no major damage or serious flooding.
As a result, the Rays are talking to and will be working with St. Petersburg officials with the aim to host the Red Sox games at the Trop this weekend, assuming that's okay from a staffing and public safety standpoint.
A final decision is not expected until Tuesday at the earliest.
The team said all staff appears to be safe as well though some, like many other Tampa Bay residents, have lost power at their homes or evacuated and need to sort through logisitcs to get back to their homes.
The Rays traveled after Sunday's game from Boston to New York, where they will "host" the Yankees at the Mets' Citi Field for three games starting tonight, as the decision was made last Friday to relocate those games from the Trop.
The Rays typically draw bigegr crowds for Red Sox games and have several promotions planned during the weekend.
