A New Port Richey man is in custody after opening fire on Pasco County deputies early Sunday morning, according to officials.
Christopher J. Cutugno , 26, has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, battery, DUI, and DUI property damage-no injury, said the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
About 1:40 a.m., deputies responding to a shooting call near U.S. 19 and Darlington Road spotted and pursued Cutugno's vehicle onto Eastwood Lane into a residential neighborhood, sheriff's officials said
At the end of Eastwood Lane, Cutugno fired at the deputies, who returned fire. The Sheriff's Office has not said how many deputies returned fire or their names.
Cutugno was then arrested. There were no injuries, officials said.
According to Pasco Sheriff's Office's records, Cutugno has previously been arrested in Pasco County five times, including for armed burglary in 2008.
