The Dalí Museum is giving art aficionados a treat this Saturday, when admission at the door will be reduced to $10, more than half off its regular admission price of $22.

In anticipation of its upcoming "In Daring Fashion: Dalí and Schiaparelli" exhibition, the museum is having a big gala Saturday night and closing early, at 2 p.m. Viewers can take in the permanent collection from 10 a.m. until then for the reduced admission price, which is not available for online purchase.

"Dalí and Schiaparelli" opens to the public Oct. 18.

Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli, regarded as fashion's forefront designer of the 1920s and '30s in Paris, was known for her bold aesthetic and exquisite workmanship. Her designs were heavily influenced by the surrealists, particularly Salvador Dalí, with whom she often collaborated. That relationship is the subject of "Dalí and Schiaparelli."

The exhibit will not be on display Saturday, but the museum's permanent of more than 90 paintings is the largest collection outside of Spain of art by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali.

The Schiaparelli exhibit will feature haute couture gowns, accessories and jewelry, sketches, photos and more, as well as new designs by Bertrand Guyon for Maison Schiaparelli.

The museum has teamed up with Dress for Success Tampa Bay to accept donations of new or gently used handbags, scarves, belts and jewelry during the entirety of the exhibit, which ends Jan. 14. Attendees will receive $2 off admission on the day they make the donation.

Regular admission is $22, $17 for age 18 and younger. The museum is at 1 Dalí Blvd. in downtown St. Petersburg. thedali.org.

As a kid, I always looked for doors into other worlds. I blame Narnia. In C.S. Lewis' classic novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, four British children step through a magic wardrobe into Narnia, a world filled with talking animals and plenty of cozy British teas.

Noel Cruz seemed remarkably chill. As did his partner Kerem Koca. All around them in the Station House building in St. Petersburg, workers pounded the last nails, bartenders unpacked boxes of glassware and jewel-toned bottles of Amari, and the kitchen rolled through a final round of karaage and izakaya small plates. The …
